( Seattle, WA, December 30, 2007 ) Punjabi Poets of Seattle participated in the Martyrdom Day celebrations of Guru Gobind Singh's four young sons and mother, two of which attained their martyrdom in the battlefield fighting against the tyrant Muslim rulers of the time even though they were still in their teens. The other two who were still children of elementary school age were brutally tortured and murdered by the tyrant Muslim rulers of the day after they refused to convert to Islam. The heading of this poetry recitation was: GANGU AJE MREA NAHIN ( Gangu is not dead yet ). Gangu was Guru Gobind Singh's chef who returned Guru's acts of kindness with Betrayal by getting Guru's younger sons and mother arrested who actually went to seek shelter in Gangu's home. The following poets and singers took part in the poetry recitation: Amrik Singh Kang, Hardyal Singh Cheema, Daljit Kaur Cheema, Jasvir Singh Sahota, singer Ranjit Teji ( A Rising Star of Seattle ) Mohinder Cheema, Sarbjit Singh Puyallup and Hardyal Singh. The entire one hour long program was broadcasted live from Radio Apna Sangeet of Seattle. Hardyal Singh Cheeema presided over the function while Amrik Singh Kang, the General secretary of Punjabi Sahit Sabha ( Punjabi Literary Society ) was the stage secretary for the entire hour. Inderbir Singh Sandhu from Punjabi Cultural Society though did not speak but was present in the audience. This function was such a resounding success that Punjabis of Seattle are asking for more functions like this one.----------Editor.
