DR. AMARJIT SINGH TANDA OF SYDNEY HAS BEEN NOMINATED FOR THE, " VOLUNTEER AWARD FOR THE YEAR 2001"
Sydney (Nov., 7,2001). In recognition of the International year of Volunteers, the Sikh Society of Australia Inc. has selected the name of DR. AMARJIT SINGH TANDA NOMINATED FOR THE VOLUNTEER AWARD FOR THE YEAR 2001, for his remarkable contributions as a Volunteer in Literature, Culture, Welfare, Religion, and in the Punjabi Sikh Society , who worked tirelessly, and devoted his time and skills in serving the community.
He has presented many of his poems from Jalandhar DoorDarshan and All India Radio, Jalandhar. He was also interviewed from SBS Radio, Werrington Radio Station, FM 200, Hindi Darpan, NSW, Australia.
He participated in the World
Congress of Poets held at Rozelle, held in
October, 2000 and Sydney on 10th Oct 2001, publishing a literary
Magazine in Punjabi namely Kaleere, recited poems on SBS Radio and Local
Radios and Gurdwaras.
He has published about 89 Punjabi Poems & Articles in the Punjabi
Leading Magazines(Arsee, Preet Lari Samdarshi, Aks, , Akhar) and Newspapers
such as Punjabi Tribune, The Ajit, The Tribune, Punjab Times,
Indo times, Komiat and Hindi samachar in Australia.
-Won 11 First /Second Prizes in Punjabi Poetry.
-Won Best Poem Award of 1992-93 from the Punjabi Bhasa Department, .
-Produced 3 Punjabi Feature films by Tanda Brothers Productions (Veeri, Dhee Jat Di, Pahla Pahla Piar and 1 Hindi Feature Film(Samuglar).
-Was awarded University Merit Fellowships.
-Worked as Teacher In-charge Young Writer’s Association, PAU Ludhiana.
-President, Punjabi Sahit Academy

His contribution in the Scientific Field (Entomology:Pest control):
His original research in the field of Entomology has already been recognized
by the American Biographical Institute, Raleigh, USA including his name in the
5000 Eminent Personalities of the World by. He
has also been honored by the Biological Institute of UK as a Charted
Biologist.
> written 2 books on the Pest Control, namely Biology &
>Control of Cockroaches, Biology and Control of Rats and Mice.

Organized Cultural and Competition Programs:

He organized many cultural and welfare programs last year for the
entertainment and welfare of Punjabi community, awarded certificates to the
Children for their best performance in the Bhangra and Gidha dance, for their
Best Punjabi Dress, Best Punjabi Singer,"An Evening on Punjabi Culture",
"A Program on Punjabi Poetry", "A Religious Seminar
in Punjabi", and Vatnoo Door Punjab in Australia.
In India he is well known in Punjabi Literature and community.
Organised Religious Programs:
He organised Religious Programs on the
Shabad Goshti and Aassa Di Vaar
which were participated by the Intellectuals of Punjabi community and the Sikh
Scholars last year.
Contributed to 5abi.com., Punjabi Manch Internet Magazine,
a new column on the Satire called Khattian Mithian 5abi.com was started by him
contributed almost Punjabi Manch Internet
Magazine every issue.
Helped Punjabi /Indian Students:

helped a number of Punjabi /Indian Students by providing with
reference/ recommendation letters and they all got the jobs, helped them to
find the share accommodation or any help in job in Australia.
He has painted beautiful
portaits of Gurus, Sassi Punnu.and paintings of Punjabi Culture and Reetee
Rivaz.
The work done by him is a major stepping stone in building the community.
Sikh Society of Australia will be presenting this Award to him for his outstanding contribution as an individual of the Sikh Community of Australia at the Annual Dinner and Dance Function of the Society on 17th,November 2001, at Melbourne.
