PRESS RELEASE

Punjab Today Foundation organised a talk:

Bir Devinder Singh delivered key-note address on ARDAAS

Patiala, November 10 : Punjab Today Foundation, a Patiala based NGO in association with the ‘Group 99’, an informal set-up of highly educated Sikhs of Patiala,  invited Sardar Bir Devinder Singh MLA to speak on Sikh Ardass on 9th November, 2005. An audience of about one hundred was highly impressed by the presentation of the speaker. Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar, former President, SGPC, presided over the function while Kanwar Manjit Singh, CEO, Punjab Today Foundation, welcomed the guests.

In his talk, Mr. Bir Devinder Singh made it very clear that much of what he is going to say was based on his own experience right from his early childhood. Much of the Sikh ethos was imbibed by him from his parents and grandparents. He learnt from them as to how one is to conduct oneself while praying and that it was Sri Guru Granth Sahib to whom prayer was to be addressed. Underlining a specific aspect of the Sikh prayer he said that it recapitulated in a capsule form theology and history of Sikh faith before any individual submission for a favour is made by the devotee. This is not a mere ritual but an open affirmation and commitment to a way of life. Remembering the Gurus and the martyrs steels us to face the hardships on way to a righteous life. The Guru answers the prayers of the faithful but one should be discriminating enough to ask.

During the function, Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar released the copy of Turban Special Issue of PUNJAB TODAY and presented the first copy to S. Bir Devinder Singh.

Prof. Badungar agreed with S Bir Devinder Singh and said that he was the jewel of the Sikh community. He complemented the Punjab Today Foundation for organizing such an impressive function. Dr. S. S. Nanda conducted the stage.
