Seattle Sikhs accord a very warm welcome to the visiting Sikh leader of Punjab S. Simranjit Singh Mann

The Sikh political leader Mr. Simranjit Singh Mann who has become a living monument of the oppression let loose by the authoritarian rule of the Indian Government lead by Mrs. Indira Gandhi and her party (Indira Congress ) came to North America in April.. He paid a visit to the Sikh temple on the Easter Sunday on April 23, 2000.  Mr. Mann was only a loyal servant of the Indian Regime and a police officer serving in one of the highly respected posts in India until Mrs. Gandhi let loose her reign of terror on the Sikh minority after destroying their holiest shrine the Akal Takhat and desecrating the adjacent holy Golden Temple in June of 1984.  Mr. Mann was arrested, tortured and placed in a solitary confinement for several years without trial.  The issue of his illegal detention was even raised in the United States House of Representatives.  His only fault was that he was a man of conscience and resigned from his post to protest against the army assault on his holiest religious temples. That started the reign of terror against him.  He is regarded as a man of principle and and that has made him one of the highly respected Sikh leaders at home and abroad.  The main congregation hall of the Sikh temple in the city of Renton, state of Washington was jam-packed by people eager to see him and listen to him.  Several enthusiastic people addressed the congregation during his visit.  Here are some of the pictures taken during his visit at the temple.
