Global Success

For Immediate Release

Ster Century in conjunction with the British Film Institute’s, ImagineAsia Festival bring to you the "Oscar nominated", box office hit Laagan, at the Ster Century Multiplexes nationally. The Bollywood epic will have a one off screening in Edinburgh on 26th May and Leeds on 28th May 2002.

Further to phenomenal success, Lagaan is a globally recognised movie, winning an award at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland and most recently winning 10 awards at the Indian Oscars "IIFA Awards", ranging from Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Lyrics and Best Music Director.

"Ster Century Cinemas is proud to participate in the Imagineasia Festival celebrating Asian art. We believe that these spectacular Bollywood productions can be truly appreciated in our cinemas, which offer state of the art sound, big screens and generous legroom. These films have huge crossover appeal and through these screenings, we hope to bring the Bollywood experience not only to the local Asian population but to a whole new audience". Says Gary Mayes - General manager Ster Century Cinemas.

Lagaan is a story of triumph and tragedy. It is about the spirit of a handful of villagers, of how they tide over a difficult situation and survive. The movie depicts India in the 1890s during the period of the British Raj and boasts a strong creative team, lead actor and producer Aamir Khan, writer and director Ashutosh Gowariker, music by maestro A.R. Rahman, lyrics by Javed Akhtar and narration by the legendary Amitabh Bachchan.

A lavish epic, a gorgeous love story and adventure yarn Laagan, is clearly India’s official entry into International Cinema.
